The Netherlands Music Institute in The Hague is the national repository for music resource materials. The NMI collects and preserves resource materials and makes them accessible to the general public.

The NMI is the result of the merging of three important 'paper' music collections: the music archives, the music library of the Municipal museum of The Hague and the music documentation collection of the Musica Neerlandica Foundation.

In the new institute, collections, knowledge and activities in the classical music field in general and the Dutch music field in particular, are joined together. The NMI thus positions itself as a national center where the Dutch musical heritage is collected, preserved, registered and made accessible to the general public.

The NMI's collection includes, among other things,  numerous old prints of music treatise and publications from 1500-1800. The composers' archives hold thousands of music manuscripts: legacies of Dutch composers, musicians, music institutions and societies from 1850 up to now.
